Even if you fashion yourself as the farmer type, it's not always possible to live in an actual barn house. But, that doesn't mean there aren't small touches you can add to increase the charm of your Idaho home.

Here are 5 simple things you can do to add farm charm to your home for not a lot of dollars.

Make your front door look like a barn door

This is one of the easiest (and cheapest) additions you can make to a home. You can do what the guy in the video above does and build a door from scratch, or just add some artificial weathering to your current door with the help of some varnish and/or wood treating.

Add a porch swing

This one does take a bit of skill with the hammer, but is very doable (and not very expensive).

Build a picket fence

Nothing adds quite as much country charm as a picket fence. But, it's also not a project for the faint of heart, which is why most of us don't do it.

Replace your mail box with a letter box

This is a small touch, but you'd be surprised how it can add a rural feel to your city home.

Put a wind mill in your front yard

I love this one. It's a project that most people would never think of, but nothing else quite screams "I wanna be a farmer in the Dell" quite like a working wind mill in your front yard. Nice.
