Beginning October 1, Amazon will do away with its Prime Invitee service, which allowed those who enrolled before 2015 to share shipping discounts with other household members, and the company will then push heavily to direct those members toward other options, according to information shared this week by Axios.
Other companies, such as Netflix, have made similar changes in order to prevent account sharing from resulting in a negative, quarterly financial impact. Prime Invitee enrollees should be notified once again in the coming days regarding this change, according to Axios.
Consumers often share passwords with friends and family members in order to save money, and more and more companies have gotten wise to this and have taken measures to end such transgressions. In the case of Amazon Invitee, this type of account sharing was offered by the company as a perk, and now they have decided to end the service.
