Before Idaho Senators Silence Women, Expel the Drunks

I like Christy Zito.  I’ve known her for 15 years.  We were friends even before I came to Idaho.  She wasn’t yet involved in state politics when we first met.  She’s kind, honest, and wants to do the right thing every day she goes to work.  She’s never been a member of the state legislature who was for sale.  The treatment she has received from some members of her own Republican Party is often unconscionable.  Why?  Because more of her constituents like her (judging by primary and election results by a wide margin) than her opponents.  Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?  If not, then name Brad Little Defender of the Realm and save us money by disbanding the House and Senate.

Would You Treat Your Wife This Way?

I’m a believer that you respect women at home, in the workplace, and at the State Capitol.  What really bothers me is that the man shutting down Zito is someone I respect.  He wouldn’t treat the women in his own family this way!  Senator Kelly Anthon claims, “I chose to do the right thing.”  As you watch the video, you can make up your own mind about how this was handled.  Anthon should be a breath of fresh air compared to some of the old misogynists who dominate the chamber.  I’m told one of his colleagues is often sloppy drunk and can’t keep his hands off the women he serves alongside.  We should be paying much more attention to those transgressions!

Our Men Need to be Better

I like Senator Anthon too.  He has stated on Facebook that the attacks he’s receiving are motivated by the politics of an election year.  Hey, it’s all politics every day and every year.

He just needs to realize, right or wrong, how these moments are perceived.  It’s not a good look.
