A fresh donut and a cup of coffee is how many Idahoans start each morning off. National Donut Day is just about upon us, and many state locals recently sounded off on their favorite pastry bakers.

My old man was a donut hound. He was a teacher, and commuted two hours roundtrip to work Monday through Friday for more than a decade.

When I was a kid, my dad would leave the house at 4:30 A.M. so he could stop on the way at his favorite donut shop. He'd sit, eat a donut, and read the paper while downing one cup of coffee after another for an hour or so before finishing his drive to work. This is a morning routine of many, except it's much harder to find newspapers these days.

Friday, June 6, is National Donut Day. I don't eat them like I used to, but when they're brought into work by a fellow staffer, I usually can't help myself. My personal favorites are the plain Old Fashioned and the Sugar donut.
