One of the best ways to gauge how quickly your life is passing you by is to take notice of film anniversaries.

I grew up in the eighties. Movie nights with family were a weekly thing.

My dad used to drop me and my buddies off at the movies and slip me a twenty. I developed a strong fondness for film because of my childhood and young adult years.

Science fiction and horror are my two favorite genres of film. There's only been one movie that has ever duped me into thinking the story was actually real, when in reality, it was completely fabricated.

Full disclosure now. When I walked out of the movie theater after watching 1999's Blair Witch Project, I thought the footage was real. There wasn't Instagram or 'X', or other entertainment apps on smartphones that provided spoiler alerts, so I was ignorant for a few days afterwards until word got around; maybe I just wasn't paying attention and the joke was on me.

Because the film was shot so well (for its time) and convinced many movie goers that what they were watching was reality, the Blair Witch Project is considered one of the most controversial movies ever made.
