Glanbia Announces Layoffs
Gooding, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Glanbia Foods President and C.E.O. Jeff Williams announced today that they are laying off people. While not saying how many, he said in a release. “While we are actively pursuing a number of strategic growth opportunities, the current milk supply situation in Idaho is extremely tight.
Consequently, among other initiatives, we are seeking to reduce operational and administrative costs which regrettably includes a small reduction in employee numbers. As milk supply fluctuates we need to flex our operations accordingly.”
Williams said that they are the number one manufacturer of American Style Cheese. That has grown significantly in recent years. He went on to say that Glanbia has invested millions of dollars to meet the growing demand for high-quality cheese and whey products and just recently built the cheese innovation center in Twin Falls. In addition to four factories in Idaho, they also operate one of the largest cheese plants in the world, Southwest Cheese, in Clovis, New Mexico. In the two states, the company employees more than 1100 people, Williams said.
