Every few years, a movie comes along that shocks audiences to the core. Human Centipede was one of those films.

On April 30, 2010, the movie was released in North America and instantly became a fan favorite among those who enjoy the horror / gore genre. Films like Tusk, Hostel, and Saw are comparable to Human Centipede as far as the shock factor goes.

The plot focuses on two young girls who get stranded on the side of the road during a heavy downpour and walk up to a stranger's doorstep for help. That decision turns out to be an extremely bad one as the owner of the home is a deranged doctor attempting to recreate a sick fantasy using humans.

Two follow-ups to the film have also been released, the sequel in 2011, and the latest one in 2015. I've seen them all, and the original is still the best in the trilogy. Dieter Laser, who does a brilliant job playing the villain in the original centipede, sadly passed away in 2020 at age 78.

As far as movies that shock, Human Centipede is way up there on the scale; it's certainly not a movie for the squeamish.

With Halloween just a couple of weeks away, I wouldn't hesitate to add the movie to your horror film marathon rotation, that is if you celebrate macabre motion pictures this time of year like we do.
