Idaho Teacher Pay Compared To Other College Graduates Shamefully Low
When I first saw the number, I had to do a double-take. MSN shared a story about teacher pay reaching a record low when compared to other college graduates. In no state - none - do teachers earn as much as other college graduates in other fields. But, what about Idaho? I have some bad news for you.
If you look at the data from the Economic Policy Institute, you'll see how each state rates by percentage of pay compared to graduates in other fields. As it turns out, Idaho is one of the worst.
According to their data, Idaho teachers earn a shockingly low 77% of what other professionals make.
There is a tiny little silver lining to all of this. The Economic Policy Institute said that teacher benefits were improving.
Teachers do enjoy more attractive benefit packages than other professionals; thus, our measure of relative teacher wages overstates the teacher disadvantage in total compensation.
I'm not gonna pretend to be neutral on this one. Our culture rewards professional athletes with fame and unbelievable fortune. Shouldn't those that train our children for their future be compensated at least somewhat competitively?
