While the weather is fluctuating and we have seen a few hot days here and there, the warm days are fast approaching and soon the summer heat will be upon us. While most of us are already mowing our lawns, gardening, and doing outdoor chores again, some things need to be done before the heat of the summer. Don't put things off and have to suffer through triple-digit heat, and instead take advantage of the nice weather before it is too late by doing these tasks.

Spray for Bugs

They are back. Yellow jackets, wasps, spiders, flies, ants, and more are all making their presence known, and before they make their way into your home, make sure to schedule pest control to come out and spray. You don't know what you will find in your shed, garage, or other places that you avoided much of winter and spring. Right now your house is likely peaceful and quiet, and bug-free, but soon it will be filled with buzzing, creepy crawlers, and residents you don't want. Don't wait and spray today.

Get Those AC Units Working

Not everyone in the Magic Valley has central heat, and many of those that own older homes still have wall or window units. It has been a while since they have been turned on and used, and while the expectation is that they should be working fine, it is best to turn them on now, even if you don't need to, to make sure there are no problems. The last thing you need and want is to turn it on for the first time on a 90-degree day, to find out it won't turn on or there is an issue. You are then left sweating and miserable until you can replace it or fix it. Don't wait and try it out now so there is time to do what needs to be done before it is too late.

Get the Yard Prepared for Summer

By now the hope is that you have mowed your yard at least once or twice, but if you have been putting it off, that time needs to end now. Make sure your yard equipment is working, spray for weeds, fertilize the yard, and get things prepared now, before it gets too warm. Yes, you will need to mow and possibly fertilize through the summer, but getting it set up now and starting your routine will make it a little easier come the heat of the summer. If you can spray and pull weeds as they begin, it will save you a lot of trouble later then having to pulling them during those triple-digit days. You may still need to later this summer, but the hope is it will lessen the damage.

If you are someone that puts your summer clothes into a bin or someplace else during the winter it is now the time to bring them out. We have seen a couple of warm days, but not consistent short weather yet. The time is fast approaching, and as many of us know it can heat up in a hurry in Idaho. Don't be caught with only pants available when you wish you had shorts on instead.

Get Your Stickers for Your Kayak

Let this serve as a friendly reminder to get your stickers for your kayaks before hitting the water this summer. There will be a nice warm day you can't resist getting out on the water and will get a fine for not having your sticker, or be disappointed you have to wait a little longer to go get one. Get it done now, so when the time is right, you can get in the water and go.

Stock Up on Sunscreen and Summer Supplies

It may seem silly, but loading up on sunscreen, towels, and summer essentials ahead of time is a good idea. Similar to the kayak sticker, when the weather gets warm you want to get outside and have your fun, without any side trips. If you are stocked and ready to go, it means the fun can begin sooner.
