Twin Falls is a great place to live and raise a family. You get the small town feel, but with enough shopping and entertainment to help the town feel a little bit bigger. Over the last few years, the town has grown significantly. What were once fields have turned into shopping centers, doctor offices, and car dealerships. It doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon, and more businesses will continue to move in and the town will continue to expand. There is even a semi-skyscraper downtown, to give the area more of a city feel. As nice as it is to see the town expanding and evolving, is it what the residents want and is it growing too much too soon?

For those that are moving to Twin Falls the thought of the town growing and having more stores, entertainment, and more living options may be exciting, but for those that are born and raised here, it might not be as thrilling. Residents that are born and raised in the area, typically like things to stay the way they are. For anyone that was born and raised in the same town, there are fond memories of childhood places that you miss, and seeing your hometown change can be a little overwhelming. In Twin Falls that is what many of the residents are dealing with. Every day it seems like an old store is closing and something new is moving in, and while it is standard business, the residents that have been here for many years are not as accepting of it, and it is causing a divide in the town.

Is Twin Falls Too Big?

The town is rapidly expanding, and there is no better example of that than Pole Line, where new things are being constructed weekly it seems. There have been residents of the Magic Valley that have moved out of Twin to surrounding towns because they didn't enjoy the traffic and the fast-growing town. Is the concern generational? Is it more out of staters vs lifelong Idahoans? Whatever the reason, there is a dispute among residents if the town is getting too big for its own good and it has divided Twin Falls. Change and growth are ok, but it isn't welcomed by all parties. How do you solve it? Businesses will not stop expanding into new markets, so the best solution could be to do what others have done and move to one of the smaller surrounding towns, or as one listener recommended, we may need to stop handing out building permits.

Money talks and as long as places are wanting to move into Twin Falls, it is hard to see them getting turned away. At what point does the town grow too big and become unrecognizable, and lose the charm it once had? It may already be there, and unfortunately, there is no going back. Twin is growing and there is no denying it for many of us the only thing you can do is sit back and watch and shake your head. The Twin that many knew is gone, and this bigger town, for better or worse, is here to stay.
