Reasons Why Idaho is Suffering from an Identity Crisis
Each state in the United States is unique in its own way. Some states are hot, some are cold, some are flat, and others have beaches, mountains, or both. There are stereotypes for each state, and different cultures in each one as well. While states have no true personality, they do have a sense of identity in how they are viewed. When it comes to Idaho, there appears to be an identity crisis, especially in this new year. What is wrong with Idaho and how is it failing to live up to its identity?
Idaho Doesn't Know Who it is Right Now
Some of you may be wondering how a state can have an identity crisis, but it is pretty simple in this case. Last winter, the Magic Valley was hammered with snow around Christmas time, and nobody saw grass or anything other than white until around Valentine's Day. For over two months, the sun never came out, the temperatures never rose above freezing, and many of us stayed indoors as much as possible. Fast forward to this winter, and except for a few days in November and early December, there hasn't been much snow, the temperatures have been relatively decent, the wind has been calm, for Idaho standards, and many have been able to get outside on weekends. Idaho seems to be struggling with what it wants to be and who it should be.
Will the Real Idaho Please Stand Up?
While the last two years have been nearly completely opposites, take it back a few years ago to when Snowmageddon happened. There was the snow that piled up higher in the Magic Valley than most had ever seen and when it melted it created mini lakes in certain areas. Which is supposed to be normal? Should the winters in the Magic Valley be covered in white powder or should they be more like this year with mild weather and more rain and light snow flurries? Getting away from winter, the weather in general is all over the place. A weather app can say 50 degrees and sunny three days out, only for the day to end up 15 degrees and snowing or 75 degrees and pouring rain. One hour can be calm and have no clouds in the sky, with the next having wind knock over your fence and hail or rain pummeling your house.
What Gender Would Idaho Be?
With society being more open-minded then before and identifying a specific gender isn't as black and white as it use to be, it makes choosing a gender for Idaho a little tougher. The state does appear to resemble more of my wife's personality than mine. The state seems very indecisive and can't figure out how it wants to be. One moment it is nice and the next it can be very cold or heated. Also like my wife, if you drive around the state you will notice it is one of the most naturally beautiful places there is in the entire country. With so much beauty, there is no way that Idaho could resemble a man, as we are usually disgusting.
While Idaho continues to figure out its identity and what it wants to be, the rest of us will gladly take this warmer-than-usual January. The temperature may be warmer than usual for this time of year, but if there is one thing you can count on about Idaho, is that it will change in the blink of an eye. Enjoy the mild weather, because soon the state will change its mind and be back to a bitter cold one.
