Andy Williams is infamous for the song 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,' and many have lived by his words for decades. The holidays are a time for friends, family, gifts, food, and beautiful Christmas lights. Many get an end-of-the-year bonus at work, some time away from the office, and may even travel during the holiday season. While the song is intended to celebrate the Christmas season, it couldn't be further from the truth. The holiday season is not the most wonderful time of the year, and there are a few different reasons for it, perhaps being the worst time of the year.

The Holidays Are the Worst Time of the Year

You can call me a Grinch for saying the holidays are the worst time of the year, but contrary to that statement, I love the holidays. They do, however, bring out the worst in people. Notice when you walk into any retail store, that all the employees look unhappy this time of year, stressed, and overworked. They are not enjoying life. The reason for this is due to rude customers, overcrowded stores, and long days. People during the holidays are stressed, they are rude, and they are making some bad decisions. Anyone who has attempted to go Christmas shopping this holiday season, or tried to go into any store, has likely experienced some stupidity, rudeness, and perhaps a near-death experience. For whatever reason, people become mean around the holidays, as they cut off other shoppers, nearly hit them with their cars, hit you with their carts, and perhaps some certain hand signals and foul language have been used as well. Does this sound like the most wonderful time of the year to you?

It's not a secret that holiday shoppers are rude and unobservant. Many are talking loudly on their phones, blocking whole aisles with their carts, holding up checkout lines, and acting as though nobody else in the world matters but themselves. Far too many are mistreating employees at retail stores for things that are out of their control. Nothing else matters but them and getting their shopping done, and it leads to rudeness, which then puts other shoppers in a bad mood, employees in a bad mood, and leads to an angry time for everyone.

While Christmas day can be magical and the lights are enjoyable, the music is grand, and seeing Santa is joyous, the holidays are not all cheer and joy for everyone. Try to block out the bad and focus on the good, but know that, sadly, this is not the most wonderful time of the year.
