I went down the Shoshone Grade to see Dierkes Lake and the Shoshone Falls on Thursday evening to take pictures of the many patches in the road, and I ended up staying longer than expected because a search helicopter was slowly moving along the canyon looking for something.

The helicopter was mainly moving along the Snake River side of the area, not the Dierkes Lake area. There were multiple police cars and medical vehicles gathered at Dierkes Lake near the kayak ramp. But while I was there they were mostly just waiting in their cars or talking.

Why Was There A Search Helicopter At Dierkes Lake Thursday Night

I heard someone say that a person had heard a cry for help from the canyon and that was possibly why the team was searching in the area. As I left, so did the helicopter. That was a little before 8 PM on Thursday night.

I took some pictures of the helicopter as it moved along the canyon. There isn’t any information from first responders yet. We’ll update this story if we hear any information.
