Unemployment Claims in Idaho Last Week Were Among the Highest in the Nation
The holiday season can be a tough time for many Americans, but unemployment claims in 14 states last week were higher than the previous week. Idaho was among those and ranked at the top of the list, beaten by only Kansas. WalletHub released the stats on unemployment claims in each state and the top 5 states with the biggest increases in unemployment claims are:
- Kansas
- Idaho
- New Mexico
- Pennsylvania
- Minnesota
On the WalletHub website, they explain the reasoning behind the increase in unemployment claims and whether the trend will continue leading up to Christmas. Unemployment claims were higher in blue states than red states and Idaho saw a 37.6 percent increase in claims week-over-week. Kansas, with the biggest jump in claims, saw an increase of 91 percent compared to the previous week. For Idaho, that equals about 200 claims per 100,000 people in the labor force and, for Kansas, it was 155 per 100,000.
The other states among the 14 with increasing unemployment claims other than Kansas and Idaho are North Dakota, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana, Rhode Island, Delaware, New Mexico, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
