TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)- The former co-host for Top Story on News Radio 1310 and  active community member is running as a Democrat for Twin Falls County Commissioner District 3. Jill Skeem made the announcement on her Facebook page Monday night.

After much thought and consideration, I decided to run for Twin Falls County Commissioner in District 3. Below is my press release which outlines my background and experience.

I appreciate your support!
Thank you!
Jill

Jill Skeem, former co-host of Top Story on 1310 a.m. KLIX with Kelly Klaas is running for Twin Falls County Commissioner in District 3.

Skeem moved to Kimberly, ID in 2003 from Pennsylvania after meeting her husband, Tom, while he was traveling there. She is a certified Macrobiotic Health Counselor and teaches, counsels and lectures in the Magic Valley. Skeem authored the award-winning cookbook, Comfort Food Gets a Vegan Makeover, and currently hosts the podcast, Eating Well & Staying Healthy, on www.webtalkradio.net.

What most people don't know is that Jill was a paralegal for 18 years with law firms and international corporations, such as T.G.I. Fridays and Reebok International.

Skeem led the effort to disclose the truck route planned behind closed doors for over 2 years by the Greater Twin Falls Area Transportation Committee (GTFATC) without informing the Twin Falls County Commissioners, City of Kimberly and more importantly the affected homeowners.

Skeem's research discovered that GTFATC is indeed a County Committee, one the sitting commissioners were unaware of. Working with Grant Loeb’s office, it was verified that GTFATC had ignored Open Meeting Laws for 25 years. Skeem has been nominated for the Max Dalton Open Government Award for her work.

"I only considered running recently. My work on the truck route and effort to combat a dump site on our street prompted many of my neighbors to look to me as a leader and their voice. I see this as the best way to serve them and so many others who feel they aren't in the game and need someone dedicated to their needs. The special interests have their representation. My legal experience and loyalty to the community led me to toss my hat in the ring."

“I am running on the Democratic ticket, but frankly I believe County Commissioner should be a non-partisan position. No one cares if you are a Republican or a Democrat if your house or quality of life is in jeopardy.” said Skeem. "What they care about is dedicated, effective, competent representation."

Skeem is an active Twin Falls Rotary Club member known for her many successful fundraising efforts. She is the chairperson for her brain child Death By Chocolate and Ice Cream Funday fundraisers. Since 2005, these charity events combined raised $300,000 for local charities and community projects.
Skeem will challenge the District 3 winner of May's Republican primary in November's general election.
