Klingon for Rosetta Stone Might Be the Best April Fool’s Day Prank
If you're a particularly extreme 'Star Trek' geek and have been looking for a new way to celebrate your fandom, look no further than Nerdist and Think Geek's newest venture: Rosetta Stone software for learning the harsh, bloodthirsty language of the Klingon empire! On hand to sell the product to you is 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' and 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' star Michael Dorn, who explains all of the details. Order now and you'll soon be able to threaten your friends and loved ones with the galaxy's most terrifying language! All you need is to pay the low, low price of $269.99
OK, now that you're done grasping the geektastic offer, take a glance at the nearest calendar. Yep, it's April 1. They almost got us, too.
To be perfectly honest, this April Fool's Day prank had us fooled for the first minute or so, and it only took the final price reveal to get our BS detectors screaming. Maybe it's because we're used to living in a world where knowing a few Klingon phrases here and there is perfectly normal (and something Nerdist and Think Geek would probably make). Sure, most people will think that the very concept of language-learning software for Klingon is preposterous, but for a special niche of uber-nerds, this is something that seems strangely practical.
And even if you didn't believe the prank for a second, it's pretty funny stuff. Not to mention the fact that it's just amusing to see Dorn out of his Worf makeup and looking like a perfectly normal human being willing to poke fun at himself and 'Star Trek' fans.
This isn't the first time Nerdist and Think Geek teamed up to pull off a prank like this. Last year, they proposed entirely fictional "Bane Mask Walkie Talkies," and we almost fell for that one, too. If you are going to put so much time and effort into an April Fool's prank, this is the way to do it: make something that feels just real and just stupid enough to make it seem entirely plausible.
