BOISE, Idaho (KLIX)-A 60-year-old Mountain Home man pleaded guilty to federal drug and gun charges and could face up to life in prison when sentenced. Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael Gonzalez, Jr. announced James Doud pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and unlawful possession of a firearm. Doud was stopped by an Elmore County Sheriff's deputy in March of 2021 for a traffic violation in Mountain Home. Deputies suspected Doud was trafficking meth and used a K-9 that altered them to drugs inside the vehicle. Following a search, about 1286 grams of meth, eight grams of heroin, and a 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition, plus $4,500 in cash was seized. During the investigation, deputies found out Doud had delivered meth to two other people before the stop. Doud had been convicted of burglary and was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm. Sentencing for Doud has been set for April 2022, where he faces a minimum of ten years and a maximum of life in federal prison.
