Back in the day, I used to run 5Ks with my hot mom, then I moved to Idaho and it's been a long time since I've ran one.  Since I enjoy torturing myself, I signed my mom and I up for the Spirit of Magic Valley 5K run last Saturday.  I'm still sore.  And I learned a lot.

And what did I learn?  I now know how to dress better for a 5K.

WHAT TO WEAR?

First of all I wore gym shorts and holy chaff-age on my thighs.  This could be a direct result that my thighs have reached stage "thunder."  Either way, it hurts!  So next time, I'm wearing THIS.  Kidding, I'll wear THIS.

WHAT TO LISTEN TO?

As for music, this is a must and I already had that covered.  I just listened to 98.3 The Snake on Radio Pup.  However, next time I've got to get one of those arm holder deals, like THIS.

WHAT TO DO THE NIGHT BEFORE?

For me, I drank a few beers the night before the run....bad idea, don't do it.  I woke up with a headache and a bit of a "I might barf" feeling.  On the other hand, my mom totally drank way more then I did and she beat me...so do what you want.  A good rule of thumb is to load up on carbs before you burn a bunch of calories.  Yum carbs!

WHAT TO DO AFTER THE RACE?

After these races, there's always free food and in some cases (yes, in this case), there is free beer for those of age.  I wanted to drink one so bad, but I had to be an adult and do other things that day.  Sad I know.  But if you can, after the race, just chill.  Why?  Well, I felt fine after, then wore heals for four hours straight, then my body became a stiff board.  Ouch!

WHY PAY TO RUN?

Because it's fun!  Really it is, it's way more fun to run a race with other people then by yourself, plus you get free swag and food!  Plus it's a reason to get up and move.  And the money you pay will benefit whatever cause you're running for.  It's a win-win.

My next 5K is the CSI Firecracker!  Hope to see you there!
