Reddit Post Offers New Info On Idaho Black Dahlia Murder Suspect
Nearly 80 years have passed since someone murdered a 22-year-old aspiring actress from Massachusetts and dumped her mutilated remains just off a Hollywood sidewalk. The homicide is one of the oldest unsolved crimes in Los Angeles' history, and a 2020 Reddit post of an unidentified Idaho man with the victim has reignited interest for Internet sleuths who have followed the case for years.
I first heard about the Black Dahlia case in my teens. I'm a massive true crime fan. The murder is one of the most gruesome in United States history and mirrors those of the English serial killer known as "Jack The Ripper."
Many online joined in on the post through comments and have been trying to solve the identity of the mysterious man from the Gem State.
A 2006 film called Black Dahlia did a decent job of portraying the life and gruesome death of Elizabeth Short--she was nicknamed Black Dahlia by the media for her fashion choices. Short was murdered and cleaned up with soap by the killer before being left for a woman walking with her son to discover on January 15, 1947. Her corpse was cut in half below the navel and she received several gashes to other parts of her body.
Allthatsinteresting.com provided a list of the male suspects in the case, but it remains unsolved to this day. An unidentified Boise man who spent time with Short in the weeks leading up to her murder was also questioned by the FBI, but nothing became of it.
