Rupert to Ring in the New Year with a Beet Drop
If you thought the potato drop was as Idahoan as it gets, think again. The city of Rupert says they'll be ringing in the new year with a beet drop.
No, it isn't to be confused with a type of music. The city says they're going to celebrate in their city square by dropping a giant sugar beet.
Events in the square are set to start at 7 p.m. on December 31, 2019. According to their Facebook event, they'll have a beer garden, live music, and fireworks. Some of the acts participating in the event are Barton & Bollar and Jonathan McEuen. The city says the countdown for the Beet Drop will start at 11:59 p.m. in the square.
The city of Rupert hopes their event will grow as the Idaho Potato Drop has. That event, which will be held in Boise, will start at 3 p.m. and go until 1 a.m. on January 1, 2020. Their event is set to have fireworks and music as well.
