Travel Website Names South Idaho Hotel Scariest State Landmark
A writer for a national lifestyle / travel site has declared a southwest Idaho hotel as being tops for paranormal activity.
A staffer with GoOutLocal.com recently compiled a list of spots in the Gem State that are worthy of a visit on or before Halloween. Earlier this month, the website published its top five "Idaho Haunted Places" list.
Coming in at number one on the list was Boise's Idanha Hotel. The property is located at 928 West Main Street, and is now an apartment building. The hotel is reportedly visited regularly by a scissors-wielding apparition. Elevators in the building, which opened in 1901, apparently also operate without anyone directing them to.
Second on the list is Twin Falls County's own Stricker Ranch. Located along the Oregon Trail in present day Hansen, the property was once an inn and supplies store. It is said the ranch is still visited by Mrs. Stricker, who reportedly does not care for trespassers. Several souls allegedly haunt the property.
Other places to make the list include Silver City's Idaho Hotel, the old hospital in St. Anthony and Spirit Lake, located about 28 miles northwest of Coeur d' Alene.
Having recently visited the Old Idaho Penitentiary in Boise for my first time, I was surprised to see that not on the list. Some Idahoans would argue Lava Hot Springs, or the former Albion State Normal School, are worthy selections as well.
Idaho has many historically fascinating sites that would make for a great outing in the days leading up to Halloween.
