Twin Falls : A Stones Throw From Really Really Cold
When the month of December arrives in the Pacific Northwest, you can always count on plummeting thermometers and LOTS of whining. However, there is one particular area town that is annually known for being one of the coldest spots on the planet.
Having spent more than 15 years living in California's Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills, I've endured some cold winters. But upon my arrival last October as a first-time, official Idaho resident, it didn't take long for me to realize I'd have to adapt to a whole new kind of cold.
The website, Only In Your State, recently featured an article on the city of Stanley, Idaho. Stanley is about 140 miles north of Twin Falls, and has less than 70 residents, according to the site.
Only in Your State listed Stanley as one of the coldest spots in the world, routinely rivaling winter month temperatures in Alaska.
I'm sure Stanley is a great place to settle down, but I'm not sure I could afford the heating bill.
The old "boiling water toss," was recently tested out by some visitors to the town in this video. I found myself reaching for my jacket just watching the thing.
