WATCH: Central Idaho Porch Camera Records Massive, Blue Fireball

Residents from eastern to central Idaho have been sharing thoughts on social media this week after witnessing a large, bluish fireball that was picked up on at least one home camera. The footage was reminiscent of a 2023 incident that was viewed over an airport in Australia.

Many Idahoans may have been treated to an impressive display earlier this week as a massive fireball penetrated the Earth's atmosphere and left a brilliant, blue trail in its wake that was picked up on security cameras. One Blink property camera in central Idaho recorded the event that was likely a large space rock composed of magnesium, which is what gives such debris the blueish hue.

The video that shows the fireball was uploaded to Reddit on Thanksgiving Day (November 28), but may have occurred earlier in the week judging by comments made online. Some who shared thoughts on the video came from fellow Idahoans who witnessed the same fireball from other regions of the state. An almost identical-looking fireball was recorded on an airport camera in 2023 in Australia.

The Reddit post was shared by Fluffy_Seaweed 3963 and titled "What is this? Central Idaho." A motion camera pointed to the south captured the space rock, according to the website. There are an estimated 17,000 meteors that enter the Earth's atmosphere per year, according to iberdrola.com.
