If you happen to be in the right place at the right time with your phone handy, you can catch some incredible footage in the nighttime sky. One California resident recently shared a short video clip of an impressive trail of space debris that lit up the sky for several minutes and made local headlines.

I'm a huge fan of anything resembling astronomy. The universe fascinates me to no end. When I see videos or photos people share of anomalies taking place in the sky above us, I get very excited and curious; it's the kid in me coming out again.

As a child, we had a telescope on our front balcony that allowed us to scan a massive portion of the sky. My mother used to have to drag me away from that thing at bedtime. I would have loved to pursue a gig with NASA, but math was my nemesis in both high school and college.

In April, a Southern California resident shared footage of such an event that made the local news. Just a couple of days ago, a similar video was shared by another Californian that shows a colossal fireball disintegrating and breaking up in the darkness.
