Desert living has its perks and disadvantages. One Idaho family was recently visited by dozens of massive, wind-blown tumbleweeds and the footage looks like something out of a science fiction film.

Living in Idaho can be an adventure in itself. I've seen the craziest lightning storms, major wind gusts of over 70 miles per hour, and torrential rain while camping in the Sawtooth Mountains in July. I've also had the occasional tumbleweed pinball off my front bumper while driving down the highway, but I haven't seen anything quite like a recent YouTube video that has racked up over 19 million views since May 8, 2024.

The footage seriously looks like a Hollywood special effects team created it. The goggles were a nice touch by the kid who braved the ordeal with his dog before hightailing it inside.

"Come back! Owen...come back," are the words this Idaho mother shouted to her son who was having too much fun as a swarm of giant tumbleweeds headed toward their front porch. There must have been forty of these things covering a lot of ground thanks to nearly 50-mile-per-hour winds.

The footage seriously looks like a Hollywood special effects team created it. The goggles were a nice touch by the kid who braved the ordeal with his dog before hightailing it inside. The dog was not harmed in this windstorm or taken out by one of these killer tumbleweeds, according to the video description.

The footage was shot April 29 in an undisclosed Idaho town. The video has over 170,000 likes. Mom got a little concerned there for a moment, but I'm guessing the two had more fun than anything. I'm not sure how much damage a 50-mile-per-hour tumbleweed can really do, but the video is pretty awesome.
