It's no secret that America is home to the highest number of foreigners on the planet. One American blogger believes there are certain questions or comments that are inappropriate to say to someone born outside of the United States upon the first interaction.

I'm of the opinion that one of the greatest things about America are our opportunities. If a person born outside of the U.S. wants to try to better their life with the goal of becoming a U.S. citizen, I say go for it, but do it legally.

I'm fascinated with other people's stories. Personally, I don't have much of a story. I've had several opportunities growing up in America--the opportunity to gain an education, the opportunity to pursue a career, and the opportunity to form a family of my own--but some people are being forced into a life of fear and repression by their governments.

There are more than 50 million immigrants in the U.S., according to numbers compiled by World Population Review. This means that on any given day, American-born citizens will cross paths with a foreigner and greet them for the first time.

Are humans naturally fearful of those born in other countries?

Leslie Farnsworth was born in America and now lives in Switzerland. She created her website observingleslie.com years ago and one of her blogs is titled 'Weird Things That Happen to Foreigners (That Shouldn't)'. In her post, Farnsworth states that asking a foreigner 'Where Are You From?", should be avoided.

Those four words (Where Are You From?) automatically make foreigners feel alienated, according to Farnsworth. She believes Americans should never lead with this question when meeting an immigrant for the first time.
