A trip to the mountains for camping can be full of surprises. One California campground located in the mountains near Yosemite National Park features one of the most unique pine trees you'll ever come across.

Camping season is in full swing across the country. The Fourth of July holiday will bring millions of Americans to the mountains looking to celebrate with family and friends. The smell of burgers and hot dogs, cold beer, lazy floats on the lake or river, and games like cornhole and horseshoes will once again be a part of our Independence Day festivities.

Nature can be humorous at times.

Another thing that's important to do when spending time away from the city and immersed in the forest is to take it all in. That morning cup of coffee tastes so much better when sitting in a camping chair listening to the sounds of birds chirping and rushing river water while admiring mountain peaks and tall, shady trees.

I recently returned from a three-night camping trip to Dardanelle, a small community at 6,500 feet in the Sierra Nevada Mountains northwest of Yosemite National Park. On the last night there (Sunday), we had the entire campground to ourselves. We spent time on the river, enjoying camping games, hiking, and retiring late to the trailer to watch Austin Powers movies.

At one point, my kid ran up to me and said, "Dad, look at the twerking tree we walked past." The photo was of a pair of trees side by side with one that had an usually shaped trunk. Nature can be humorous at times.
