BYU Idaho Student Killed in Kayaking Accident

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KTVB) - An accident on the Snake River resulted in the drowning of Scott Hart, a 26-year-old BYU-Idaho student. The incident occurred between Twin Bridges and Menan Lorenzo Bridge, and his body was recovered from the South Fork of the Snake River near Idaho Falls.

Hart along with his wife Marcia Hart were in a two person kayak that was swept into a tree. The Idaho Falls Post Register reports that Scott Hart became hung up underneath a tree near the river's edge just before 1 p.m. Saturday.

Marcia was able to climb to shore. Richard and Jalissa Robinson of Sugar City, friends of the Harts', were in their own single person kayaks and were able to avoid the tree. They called 911 further downstream. All four were wearing life jackets. Jefferson County Sheriff marine deputies along with Idaho State Police were able to recover the body with the help of Jefferson County tech rescue and Central QRU members.
