‘The Flash’ TV Series: ‘Arrow’ Season 2 Targets ‘Glee’s Grant Gustin as Barry Allen
Well, okay then! Earlier this week we'd heard that 'Arrow' season 2 was down to three candidates in casting 'The Flash,' to be introduced in the coming episodes as Dr. Barry Allen and speeding toward a potential spinoff next season, and the decision is in. Ex-'Glee' villain Grant Gustin will don the iconic red tights in 'Arrow' season 2, so what do we think of the choice?
Frankly, we thought they'd go toward ‘Hatfields & McCoys‘ star Matt Barr rather than Gustin or Australian actor James Mackay, but Gustin certainly proved his charisma in the past few seasons of 'Glee.' Plus, Gustin's hair could be construed as a...dirtyish...blonde, right? In any case, Gustin's Central City forensics expert Dr. Barry Allen will pop up in the eighth and ninth episodes of 'Arrow' season 2, returning in the 20th as a backdoor pilot for his own CW series next fall.
The CW's Barry Allen is described as a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Oliver's Starling City to investigate a series of bizarre robberies that may connect back to a tragedy in his past. Not only that, but Barry's passion for comic books fuels an obsession with the "Arrow" vigilante, one he doesn't realize to be complicated by working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime.
In addition to incorporating references to Metamorpho, and The Atom, ‘Arrow’ season 2 will pick up on October 9 some time after the events of season 1 finale “Sacrifice,” continuing its ‘Batman Begins’-influenced storytelling with the addition of new villains Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau), Amanda Waller (‘Spartacus‘ Cynthia Addai-Robinson), Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White), Brother Blood (Kevin Alejandro), League of Assassins member Al-Owal (‘Homeland”s Navid Negahban) and DC character Sin (‘The Killing”s Bex Taylor Klaus). Guest stars Colton Haynes (Roy Harper), Manu Bennett (Slade Wilson) and Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak) have also been upgraded to series regulars for the second year in Starling City.
So, what say you DC fans? Is Grant Gustin up to the task of portraying the Scarlet Speedster in 'Arrow' season 2? What other DC stars would you like to see join the CW series? Watch the latest 'Arrow' season 2 preview below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
