The Ascalapha odorata, or the 'Black Witch Moth', is common in southern Idaho, and depending on what source you read about them, they can bring either good or bad luck to a person. These creatures have big appetites, according to A to Z Animals.

These insects are also quite pretty if you can get them to stop flapping their wings for a moment. They are often found in northern and southern Idaho and tend to be on the larger size than most other species.

So remember, don't smash that moth when it flaps past you while you're relaxing in your backyard in the coming weeks. It could be the Black Witch Moth just passing by to wish you a happy Halloween.
