Car That Needs A Refill Once Per Century
Tired of high gas prices? How about a car that only needs a refuel once every... century? David Russell Schilling reported on this thorium-powered concept car that could, in theory, revolutionize automobiles.
It's said that just one gram of the substance yields more energy than 7,396 gallons of gas! 8 grams would power the average car for a century.
There are still some *ahem* minor challenges with thorium, namely, that it's "slightly" radioactive according to world-nuclear.org, and that it can only be used with a fissile material like recycled plutonium.
Cost is also an issue.
But, you know, if we can figure out that pesky plutonium issue (if I had a nickel...), my Christmas list might look very different next year!
