Every morning, millions of kids are dropped off at schools across the world and left under the supervision of educators who are trusted with providing a positive, healthy learning experience. One California teacher who was arrested in October of 2023 for being inebriated while teaching a second-grade class recently had charges against her dropped.

A middle school teacher who was removed from her class and failed a field sobriety test last year has had the charges against her dropped after police couldn't prove she drove drunk to school, according to information provided by The Independent. Last October,  police responded to the Nuestro Elementary School District after a staffer called them to complain about the educator's behavior. She was determined to be intoxicated and taken into custody for DUI, according to The Independent.

I have a great of empathy for those who struggle with alcohol, but showing up wasted to teach young children is inexcusable.

Surprisingly, I found that drunk teaching isn't that uncommon. After researching the topic I found numerous instances where teachers have been reprimanded for leading classrooms while intoxicated. I know if I learned someone was teaching my kid drunk, I wouldn't be very happy about it at all. I feel the school district needs to release this individual if they haven't already.

I have a great of empathy for those who struggle with alcohol, but showing up wasted to teach young children is inexcusable. Teachers need to set a good example for children, and drinking on the job does the exact opposite of that.
