Design of New Jerome Interchange to Be Presented to Public Dec. 9

JEROME, Idaho (KLIX)-The public will have a chance to review the final designs for the South Jerome Interchange project next week. The Idaho Department of Transportation will host a public meeting showing the completed plans to replace the south interchange at Exit 168, slated for construction in the fall of 2023. The open house presentation will be at the Jerome City Council Chambers on East Avenue A from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. December 9, a Thursday. An online presentation will be available also, December 9 and 10, HERE. The new interchange will look like a large roundabout with two bridges that will replace the aging single bridge built in 1968. ITD said the double bridge design will allow the structures to be shorter and accommodate pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The interchange was designed to meet the current and future needs in the next 20 plus years. New safety features along with coordinated traffic lights at either end will move traffic more effectively and safely, according to ITD. The interchange will tie in with another proposed project to widen Interstate 84 between Jerome and Twin Falls with two additional lanes, one for each direction of travel.
