Twin Falls city councilwoman Suzanne Hawkins is now mayor of the city after her fellow council members elected her Monday evening.

The city of Twin Falls announced the councils decision to elect Hawkins as mayor and supported the nomination of Ruth Pierce as vice-mayor. Now former Mayor Shawn Barigar did not put his name in for reelection as mayor, but he stays on as a city council member.

Hawkins will serve as mayor for two years and may be reelected or the council could choose another person on the council to serve as mayor; the council also has the ability to remove the mayor if need be. Also at the first council meeting of the year Craig Hawkins took the oath of office as he was elected to replace retiring member Chris Talkington.
