Single Vehicle Fatality on Idaho Highway This Weekend
Fatal Crash Near Elk City Summit Rd. in Idaho County, Idaho
According to an ISP press release, a tragic single-vehicle crash occurred on October 5, 2024, near Elk City Summit Rd. and Newsome Creek Rd. in Idaho County, Idaho. Idaho State Police and the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 3:10 p.m.
Vehicle Involved and Occupants
A 57-year-old man from Nampa, Idaho, was driving a white 2001 Ford F350, which was also occupied by a 67-year-old female passenger and a 41-year-old male passenger. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Elk City Summit Rd. when it reportedly lost braking power. As a result, the truck left the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned.
Injuries and Fatality
The driver sustained no injuries, but the 67-year-old female passenger was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, the 41-year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to authorities, the female passenger was wearing a seatbelt, while neither of the men in the vehicle were restrained at the time of the crash.
Road Closure and Investigation
The road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while emergency crews worked to process the scene. Officials have stated that alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash. Next of kin for the deceased have been notified, and the Idaho State Police are continuing their investigation.
