Over the last few years, it has been a revolving door of places coming and going in Idaho. It isn't only Idaho; since the pandemic, many areas have struggled to stay open and have had to make adjustments by either closing stores, cutting costs in some form, or going out of business. While it is expected for many retail stores, surprisingly, the food industry has suffered significantly as well. Many restaurants and food chains have closed over the last couple of years, and another has been added to the list. Another restaurant has closed in the Gem State recently and left customers scratching their heads and upset.

The Magic Valley was forced to wave goodbye to Capriotti's recently as they closed their doors on June 29. The sub shop was located at 334 Cheney Drive West and offered a variety of delicious sandwiches, both hot and cold, a variety of fries, chips, drinks, and more. While the prices were a little higher than most customers would like, the food and portion sizes were often worth the extra cost. The store opened back on August 5, 2019, and closed on June 29, 2025 ending a nearly 6-year run in the Magic Valley. The closure came abruptly, as it was reported that employees were notified at the end of their shift the night before, and the store was closed the next day.

Capriotti's joins a long list of places that have closed over the last few years in the Magic Valley. Their abrupt closure is eerily similar to the way that Golden Corral closed, where they were open one day and closed the next without any sign of a closure coming. Customers were shocked when Golden Corral closed, and Capriotti's has had a similar feeling. Some may ask if the area is not a good destination for food, as over the last few years, Sweeto Burrito closed next door to Capriotti's, as well as Boomerang Coffee, which was also directly next door. Earlier this year, down the street, The Sodamix closed as well. That area of Cheney has not been kind to many eating and drinking establishments, yet continues to grow and add more options such as Chipotle, Duck Donuts, and Wing Stop in the last couple of years, which all three seem to be doing well.

It is sad to see another eating option close in the Magic Valley, but the good news is that Capriotti's is a chain and that there are others around Idaho for you to enjoy. You may have to drive further now or get a sandwich when traveling, but Capriotti's is not gone for good, only from the area. Thank you for the last 6 years, you will be missed in the Magic Valley.
