Twin Falls Police Investigate Shooting Following Large Fight
On Friday, August 9, 2024, Twin Falls Police officers responded to a report of a large fight in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue East at approximately 8:17 p.m. Upon arrival, officers witnessed numerous individuals fleeing the scene. One person was identified as being involved in the altercation; however, police were unable to confirm whether a crime had occurred, as no victims came forward, and no additional suspects were identified at the time.
Shots Fired Near Liberty and 2nd Avenue East
Later that evening, at around 9:26 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Liberty and 2nd Avenue East following a report of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered several shell casings on the roadway and sidewalk. The same individual involved in the earlier fight was found in the area of the shooting.
Victim Identified with Non-Life-Threatening Injury
At approximately 9:40 p.m., Twin Falls Police were notified by St. Luke’s Medical Center staff of a gunshot victim who had arrived at the emergency room. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Christopher M. Gonzales of Twin Falls, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. It remains unclear whether Gonzales was involved in the earlier fight.
Ongoing Investigation
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Twin Falls Police Chief Craig Kingsbury stated, “We do not believe this to be a random act of violence. We are actively working with the victim to identify other people involved in the shooting.”
