
Southern Idaho Police Involved in Fatal Shootout in Idaho Falls
Police in Southern Idaho were involved in a shootout with a suspect earlier this week. No officers were injured, but the suspect passed away at the hospital.
The shooting happened in Idaho Falls on August 19th, a few minutes before 11 PM.

In the public release report from the Idaho Falls Police Department on social media, they share the circumstances that led to the shooting.
Initially, police responded to a call about a man with a gun at an apartment complex in Idaho Falls. The man had allegedly pointed the gun at the caller, was acting erratically, and made suicidal statements.

When police arrived, they encountered the man trying to get inside an apartment which was occupied by the caller and children. Police tried unsuccessfully to talk to the man to get him to surrender peacefully. They also used a K9 to try and apprehend the man, but that was also unsuccessful.

The suspect displayed a gun, threatened the offices, and ultimately fired at them. Officers responded with shots and hit the suspect.
Emergency medical crews were on the scene and provided aid to the man on the way to the hospital, but he passed away.
The incident is being investigated by an EICIT (East Idaho Critical Incident Taskforce) comprised of police from Rexburg and other regional law enforcement agencies. Body cam footage from the responding officers and witness statements will be used to aid the investigation.
