JEROME, Idaho (KLIX)-An intersection in Jerome County on U.S. 93 will close next week as part of a larger project to widen the highway in the future.

The Idaho Transportation Department announced the closure of the west side of 200 South intersection beginning Monday Dec. 16, but it shouldn't be closed more than a week. Motorists who use the intersection and travel on 200 S to get to the highway traveling east will need to use 100 South or 300 South during the closure.

US-93 will remain open during the construction. “This project will improve safety at the US-93/200 South intersection for both passenger and commercial vehicles,” said ITD Project Manager Sam Purser in a prepared statement.

“The end result will be a divided highway similar to what drivers encounter two miles south of this area.” The highway will eventually be expanded in the area to four lanes as it is just north of the truck stops and other businesses along the route to the south of 200 S. .
