Opinion: Idaho Store Employees Shouldn’t Pick Up Your Dog’s Poop
In all my years of going to grocery stores, I've only once taken a dog of mine inside. It's extremely common nowadays for dog owners to bring their pets inside of businesses, but doing so does present some problems for staff and poses risks for customers making many people resent those who can't run errands without toting around their four-legged companions.
When we got our Golden Retriever in April of 2023 he was just shy of three months old. In the first week or so we had him home, we took him to the pet store and Walmart because he felt he was too young to leave alone for what amounted to several hours. We got in and out quickly and I held the little guy the whole time.
Some stores have followed through with bans on dogs and pet owners often boycott such policies. With the exception of service dogs, it is my opinion that people need to leave dogs at home when grocery shopping.
Unless it's absolutely necessary, my dog does not accompany us on errands. I honestly think our pet prefers staying home because he does not enjoy rides in the truck; he'll grow out of it I'm sure. He has traveled back and forth twice from Idaho to California but requires heavy medications due to car sickness. He's about a year and a half now, and I'm looking forward to many camping trips and afternoons at the lake with him this summer.
Sites such as Facebook and Instagram are full of videos of dogs wandering aisles and being carted around stores. I came across a recent social media post where a woman was complaining about dog owners letting their pets poop in stores and doing nothing about it. I too have seen dog crap in aisles at stores on more than one occasion, and I know their owners are turning a blind eye to the matter.
