Real Life ‘Homeward Bound': Lost Cat Finds Way Home From WY To CA
Take it from someone who knows, losing a pet is awful. A West Coast, California family is celebrating the safe return of their lost cat and at the same time trying to figure out how it made it more than 800 miles back home after being gone for two months.
This story is giving off huge Homeward Bound vibes.
Some things in life are just better left unexplained. A recent pet story with a perplexing but happy ending has managed to make national news after a 2-year-old Siamese cat named "Rainbow" managed to find its way from a portion of Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park to Salinas, California, a trip that includes four states and over 800 miles.
This story is giving off huge Homeward Bound vibes. If you've never seen it, it came out in 1993 and was about three pets (one cat and two dogs) who help each other find their way back home after being lost. It was one of my daughter's favorite movies growing up so I basically have it memorized.
According to details shared by USA Today, the cat ran off during a family trip to Yellowstone. It was discovered at an animal shelter near Sacramento, and the family was contacted. Salinas is located just outside the coastal city of Monterey and 200 miles southwest of where the cat was ultimately picked up by its owners.
"Reunited and it feels so good."
The fact this feline didn't become a snack for a wolf, eagle, or some other Yellowstone apex predator is incredible enough. The only explanation that makes any sense is that the cat was dropped off at the shelter by someone heading west who either knew where its home was somehow or got tired of its company and incredibly abandoned it just three hours from its home.
