RECALL: Popular Spread In Your Idaho Cupboard May Have Bacteria

Numerous shipments of one of the most popular brands of peanut butter sold throughout the United States were discovered weeks ago to potentially be tainted with bacteria, and health officials are reminding residents to check cupboards for this red-flagged product.

We all know how long peanut butter tends to sit around in our cupboards. One jar of the stuff can last me up to a year or more. There are also occasions I'll pull peanut butter out of the pantry and learn it's been in there for years without being tossed out and replaced.

Select lots of Jif Peanut Butter were recalled eight weeks ago after tests discovered a possible link to Salmonella. Jif shared information on its official website under the recall tab that explains what to watch for, including printed lot codes, dates, and other information to help consumers identify the potentially tainted product. Salmonella poisoning often results in fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.

Universal product codes (UPC) and jar descriptions were also shared by the company. Consumers who believe they were sickened by the product can also submit recall claim forms to Jif, and a representative will contact you as soon as possible.
