Returning to your car after a workout, business meeting, or an early dinner date to find a parking ticket jammed into a windshield wiper can be the perfect ending to a crap day. What if you were being cited for parking outside your place of business? This topic arose recently on a Magic Valley social media site, and it turns out a number of area residents and business owners are not particularly stoked about it.

To be honest, I've never gotten a traffic citation I didn't earn. I've been issued parking tickets a handful of times or so in the 34 years I've been a licensed driver, and I think they all stemmed from working at the end of a pier in my teens, where city parking was a disaster. I'm not a fan of forking over my hard-earned money for stupid reasons, so I pay close attention to what I'm doing regarding parking.

Is there a problem in downtown Twin Falls with parking for businesses? If so, what should be done about it?

The average cost of a parking ticket in the United States is about $40, according to details shared by howstuffworks.com. That's almost half a tank of gas in my truck, so I'm not about to give that up easily. There are drivers out there who are prolific parking ticket earners and pay hundreds of dollars a year in these fines because they just don't mind it.

I recently came across a Southern Idaho Rants / Raves post from January 28 that was shared by someone frustrated over receiving parking tickets outside their workplace. A barrage of similar comments from people in Twin Falls soon followed the share, with some residents and business owners claiming they had been cited repeatedly for this.

The rule of thumb I go by when it comes to parking is just to do what the sign says. If you get ticketed for following directions, then you have a case to get that citation reversed.
