Compared to a decade ago, there are far more property cameras being used by United States homeowners, and some of the things that get recorded range from bizarre and frightening to unbelievable and even heartbreaking. Idaho home cameras have also made the evening news for some of the images that have been shared with law enforcement over the past several years.

We finally broke down and bought a doorbell camera and two exterior monitoring devices a couple of summers ago after some strange things kept happening on our property. Missing packages, strange prints in the snow, and the occasional random neighborhood rifle shots prompted us to get into the surveillance game. We've caught some pretty crazy stuff with these cameras in the past couple of years.

I think in all my years as an Idaho resident, the final images of a 7-year-old J.J. Vallow playing with a friend before his disappearance and murder is perhaps the most troubling and heartbreaking thing I've seen shared by a fellow resident.

Most people buy home security cameras to keep track of the neighborhood goings on. Others buy them to snoop on renters or as a deterrent for crime. My wife first brought the idea up after a pack of critters kept mysteriously visiting our back deck and garden, so we thank the wildlife for the fact we loaded up on exterior cameras. From a raccoon invasion and gunfire to a fox stealing a package from our porch stairs, we've been quite entertained since we installed them.

Homeowners also catch very disturbing things on camera. I think in all my years as an Idaho resident, the final images of a 7-year-old J.J. Vallow playing with a friend before his disappearance and murder is perhaps the most troubling and heartbreaking thing I've seen shared by a fellow resident.

What's the most shocking or bizarre thing you've ever recorded while living in Idaho?
