Toejam and Earl’s Kickstarter Successful: The Boys Are Back
Hip hop's greatest alien duo was successfully funded through their Kickstarter campaign and will officially return in Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove.
Toejam and Earl had a very brief foray into the world of gaming with only three games coming out in its series, but that doesn't mean they were easily forgotten. The original game has been ported most recently to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, and now Humanature Studios will be making a new game for PC, called Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove. The studio, which consists of former members of Toejam and Earl Productions, went to Kickstarter to crowdfund the game, which just hit its main goal, meaning this new project is going to make it.
The Kickstarter campaign officially reached its first stretch goal, surpassing its original askance of $400,000 by $25,000, which will bring about old school skins for Toejam and Earl. There are seven stretch goals in all that range from the original $420K requirement to $800K. At $450K the Hyperfunk zone from Panic on Funkatron will be added, at $500K there will be more playable characters (Latisha, Toejam's Cousin, Earl's Mom), at $550K some guest composers will make themselves known (John Baker, Kawehi, Tonez P and others) and afterwards starts the stretch goals for more consoles. Unfortunately, the campaign doesn't look anywhere close to reaching the $600K for PS4, $700K for Xbox One or $800K Wii U stretch goals. With only one day left in its campaign, we hope some wealthy benefactors come out to help, so we can play the new Toejam and Earl on an official home console. Nevertheless, we're just glad the boys are back.
Humanature's team is looking forward to making the new Toejam and Earl their way, without publishing companies breathing down their necks as to what to include or cut, which is quite groovy.
