Driving around any town is a lot like playing chess. There are certain moves behind the wheel where once you fully commit to an action, there's no going back.

Most people who possess a driver's license are aware of the difference between right and wrong. It is, however, just human nature for some drivers to attempt maneuvers that save time if there's no threat of injuring another motorist or pedestrian, and the coast is clear from law enforcement.

There's one spot on Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls that could use some attention from city traffic enforcement officials, as some motorists are being pulled over for something that's not necessarily their fault, and city police are being very lenient about it.

Left Turn Arrow On Blue Lakes Boulevard Presents A Dilemma For Motorists

Tuesday morning, I got pulled over while making a left turn into the Target shopping center. The final left turn pavement arrow on Blue Lakes Boulevard--before Pole Line Road as you approach the streetside Target sign on the left--presents problems for motorists. Covering the arrow with paint would save motorists from falling into an easy trap.

The dilemma is that the arrow on the road is directing motorists to turn where there's no access point to the shopping center. So, you have two choices. The first is to make a U-turn, and the other option is to proceed a short distance into the forbidden traffic zone-- where the dotted line turns into two solid yellow lines--to make that left turn at the Target streetside sign.

The very pleasant officer didn't give me a citation and also explained that it's a common occurrence and is confusing for drivers. Perhaps getting rid of that white turn arrow could fix this entire issue and save both the police and civilian motorists headaches. By removing that arrow, motorists will likely make U-turns instead of proceeding to make that left turn.

It is technically breaking a traffic law to pull into the forbidden zones, so I'm thankful I got away with a warning, but again, the placement of the arrow is deceiving.

I appreciate the way the Twin Falls police are handling this matter.

Have you been pulled over making this left turn into the Target parking lot in Twin Falls? If so, how was it handled?
