Update: Model Railroad Open House in Filer
I wanted to share some updated pictures from the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds. Many of you saw the new Magic Valley Model Railroaders exhibit at the fair last summer, but if you didn’t, Karl Corbin sent along these pictures.
Even if you’re not a model railroad practitioner, the exhibits will spur some childhood memories.
Karl is a lifelong model railroad enthusiast, a military retiree, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Twin Falls and a scout leader. Which says a lot about how people can squeeze a lot into life when organized (see the part about military retiree!)
In a previous post I mentioned the railroaders are hosting a Christmas open house on December 7th. It starts at noon and ends 4 hours later. Even if you’re not a model railroad practitioner, the exhibits will spur some childhood memories.
As you can see from Karl’s pictures the new exhibit is more spacious and has a much cleaner look than it did in the old building.
Moving the caboose was a serious undertaking. It involved cranes. Not only was the caboose lifted but the trucks it rests upon also had to be moved through use of a crane.
By the way, there are an estimated 1.2 million model railroaders in America. The number is higher if you count casual enthusiasts. And if you count everyone who owns or has owned a model railroad then you’re probably in the tens of millions.
There is no charge to see the exhibit on December 7th and there will be refreshments. These will be mild in keeping with the family nature of the event.
