USS Idaho, Our Newest, Badass Attack Submarine Deploys In Spring
The United States will be officially deploying the country's newest, state-of-the-art, attack submarine in a matter of a couple of months. The christening of the vessel took place in March of 2024, and the state of Idaho will be represented well as a defender of freedom very soon.
Idaho has cause to celebrate this spring. In fact, the state has more than 32,000 tons worth of celebrating to do prior to and after the official deployment of the USS Idaho (SSN799) in the next six months or so, according to ussidahocommittee.org.
War is never something that anyone should want, but it's comforting to know that we have added such an impressive weapon to our country's military.
The impressive, nuclear weapon first cut through the waters of The Thames River in Connecticut on August 6 (2024) from the General Dynamics Electric Boat Shipyard, which has been building military vessels since 1899. Idaho is a state that prides itself on supporting the U.S. military, so many Gem State eyeballs will be focused intently on the national coverage when the submarine crew gets their first taste of ocean freedom this year.
My father, God rest his soul, was a Vietnam veteran and serviceman for both the U.S. Marine Corps and Air Force, and one of the reasons he decided to settle in a retirement facility in Southern Idaho is because he wished to be buried at the Snake River Canyon National Cemetery in Buhl. We take our nine-year-old boy to visit his gravesite every year.
I can't wait for the state of Idaho to get the opportunity to see what this submarine is capable of someday. War is never something that anyone should want, but it's comforting to know that we have added such an impressive weapon to our country's military.
