The National Hockey League's newest expansion team opened the 2024-25 season with a decisive win Tuesday night on home ice, the franchise's first in team history. The Utah Hockey Club also participated in its first on-ice brawl and handled its business on that end as well.

Professional hockey is here to hopefully stay in Utah for a long time. The club's inaugural game was at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Tuesday night, and the former Arizona Coyotes squad trounced the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2. The Arizona Coyotes relocated to Utah after 28 years in the Grand Canyon State.

Hockey is a beautiful sport and one I've been a massive fan of since seeing my first live game 25 years ago. Hopefully, Utah fans will have a lot to cheer about this season.

What a way to start the season for the NHL's newest team. At one point, Utah was up 3-0 on superstar Connor Bedard and his Chicago team who finished last year with just 23 wins, the least number of dubs the club had had since the fifties. The team is owned by Ryan and Ashley Smith, who also run the Utah Jazz.

Utah's first regular season goal was scored Tuesday night, they notched their first win, and with six minutes left in the second period, the guys got into their first fight when the team's captain Clayton Keller was targeted for a check against the boards. Over $120,000 in Delta Center beer sales was tallied for the inaugural Utah game, according to sltrib.com. All in all, the night was a complete success, and not one Utah skater was injured either.
