As far as high school football legends go, Al Bundy raised the bar when he scored four touchdowns for the Polk High School Panthers in 1966. For Idaho fans of the eighties and nineties sitcom, you might also recall an episode where Bundy thought he was going to father another child at 50 years old and laid out a plan involving the state of Idaho.

Married With Children aired for a decade straight beginning in 1987. It launched the careers of Christina Applegate, Katey Sagal, and Ed O'Neill. I left the actor who played "Bud" out because I'm not sure his career went any further, but that's neither here nor there. O'Neill and Applegate went on to become megastars in television and film, but the character of Al Bundy left a lasting impression far greater than any of the rest of the cast.

Idaho just can't seem to catch a break from Hollywood.

Yesterday, someone shared an Al Bundy GIF in our fantasy football league chat. It resulted in a nostalgic eruption of comments pertaining to the hit television show and Ed O'Niell's character. Our league is made up of primarily people in their thirties and forties. People born after 1990 would not have understood most of what we were chatting about.

I was online this week and came across a text chain from 12 years ago that had to do with season 6 of the show. When I say "chain," I mean it was two people. What's hilarious to me is I remember the episode when Al thought Peg was pregnant and began to freak out about having another child at 50.

In the episode, Al suggests all pregnant women move to Idaho because "no one cares." Just a few days ago, the film The Union was released for streaming on Netflix starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry. Wahlberg's character also takes a shot at the Gem State in the movie that insinuates Idaho is expendable.

Idaho just can't seem to catch a break from Hollywood.
